Aquinas Youth Wrestling Program
*Children from any local school, in K – 6th grade, are welcome to participate.K-2 Philosophy
Aquinas K-2 youth wrestling will introduce the sport in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Our primary goal for these youth wrestlers is that they have fun each practice and learn to identify with the sport, and leave the season wanting to come back for more. Emphasis will be placed on drills, games and activities that promote body awareness and athletic movement. A very small amount of technique will be shown and competition (live wrestling) will not be promoted outside of the regular practices.
- Wrestling games played nightly!
- Treats provided after practices!
- Get to rough house with their classmates! Who doesn’t love to rough house?
- Run out with the High School varsity wrestlers at a home dual!
- Feats of strength competitions during practice!
3rd-6th Philosophy
Aquinas 3rd-6th youth wrestling will introduce and advance the sport of wrestling in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Our primary goal for these youth wrestlers is that they have fun each practice, identify themselves as a wrestler, and advance their wrestling knowledge with each successive season. Emphasis will again be placed on body awareness through drills, games and activities, while basic techniques to the sport will be introduced slowly each successive week as seen fit by the coaches. Competition will not be promoted, but we will showcase opportunities to compete in the area if the athlete so chooses himself to do so.
- Wrestling games played nightly!
- Rough house with your classmates and not get in trouble for it!
- Run out with the high school varsity wrestlers at a home dual!
- Play dodgeball to enhance your body awareness skills!
Children’s Testimonials
“I love making new friends at wrestling. It’s hard work, but Coach Smith makes it fun. And, at the end of practice, I always feel better about myself.”
“The best thing about wrestling is playing all of those fun games with so many other kids; sharks and minnows is my favorite! Coach Peter plays with us and he is really fun. Sometimes, if I listen really good, I win a Gatorade!”
“I love to practice my wrestling moves at home so I can knock those boys down to the mats at practice! Coach Stanek sometimes calls me a Ninja so I always do my best.”
Lilly loves being able to get right in there and work and play alongside the boys, but she would love to see some girls in the mix. I’m sure she would try to be gentle with them.
Parent’s Testimonials
“Both of our boys loved the experience of being a part of a team without the pressure to compete at a young age. I appreciate the skills and values the coaches impart to the kids while holding them accountable for things like cleaning up the wrestling room post-practice and helping the littler, younger ones of the group.”
“We really loved the youth wrestling program you had last year! It was the boys’ 1st year and they had a great time. They loved the games and learned the fundamentals of wrestling in a non-competitive, supportive environment. The coaches were excellent role models for the kids. Wrestling gave the kids a great outlet to exercise during the cold winter months. We will definitely be doing it again!”
